I’m a novelist, short story writer and creative writing teacherimg_3850-version-2-final.  My debut novel ALL THE GOOD THINGS was published by Viking, Penguin UK on 1st June 2017.  It will be followed by my collection of very short fiction HOW THE LIGHT GETS IN, which will be published by Influx Press in June 2018.

Born in 1987 in Tooting, south London, I now live in Leeds, and my heart is firmly torn between the two cities. I have an MA in Creative and Life Writing from Goldsmiths, University of London and am represented by Zoe Waldie at Rogers, Coleridge and White.

I now live in Leeds, where I write, work as a freelance editorial consultant and teach creative writing. If you’d like me to give you some feedback on your manuscript, run a creative workshop or collaborate in any other way, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Some Good Things about All THE GOOD THINGS:

allthegoodthings4-2

“Heartfelt, heartbreaking, and genuinely joyous” (Francis Spufford, author of Golden Hill)

“Compassionate and beautifully written” (Carys Bray, author of The Museum of You)

“A funny and hopeful story… Clare writes with compassion and insight” (Kit de Waal, bestselling author of My Name is Leon)

“The best thing I’ve read this year.” Joanne Harris, author of Chocolat

“A sparky and unsettling debut.” The Guardian

Other Things about Me: When I am not trying to write my second novel, I teach creative writing and offer one-to-one manuscript assessment and mentoring on a freelance basis and through Cornerstones Literary Consultancy. I teach a rolling four week creative writing course at The Bowery, Headingley and have also taught writing in a women’s prison, at schools, art galleries and at literary festivals.

I also run the somewhat confusingly named  Hyde Park Book Club Book Club . I am generally up for interesting collaborations and adventures, so don’t be shy about getting in touch.
